Frequently Asked Questions:

How often should my piano be tuned?

For most home pianos, we recommend tuning twice a year. Changes in temperature and humidity throughout the Virginia seasons cause the wood to expand and contract, which pulls the strings out of tune. Regular maintenance ensures the instrument stays stable and sounds its best

What is the difference between piano tuning and restoration?

Tuning is the process of adjusting the tension of the strings so they vibrate at the correct pitch.Restoration (or Regulation) involves the mechanical parts—the keys, hammers, and pedals. If your keys are sticking, the touch feels "heavy," or the sound is muffled, your piano likely needs mechanical repair or restoration beyond a simple tuning.

My piano hasn't been tuned in years. Can it be saved?

Absolutely! While a piano that has sat for a long time may require a "pitch raise" (a preliminary tuning to get the strings back to the proper tension before the final fine-tuning). Our 40 years of experience allows us to stabilize even the most neglected piano.
